The “Mathematics on Ice” forum aims to provide a virtual room for discussion on mathematical aspects of ice dynamics. It was started in the beginning of 2021 to keep the community connected and have a platform for informal exchange throughout the pandemics. Due to the super positive feedback and the strong wish to do so, we want to continue the forum. Starting with October, every month, there will be a couple of short talks and opportunity for breakout discussion, as well as meeting new people.
The first meeting is on 24 October from 4pm BST to 5:30pm BST on the topic “fracture and calving”. There will be presentations by Hanwen Zhang (Oxford) on “Supraglacial Lake Drainage Initiated by Tidally Induced Hydro-fracture on Amery Ice Shelf” and by Jakub Stocek (British Antarctic Survey) on “Phase field viscoelastic fracture models for ice sheet dynamics”.
Everyone is welcome to join! If you are interested in joining the seminar, please contact the organisers Elisa Mantelli (elisa.mantelli@utas.edu.au), Ian Hewitt (hewitt@maths.ox.ac.uk), Ronja Reese (ronja.reese@northumbria.ac.uk; member of TiPACCs), and Sam Pegler (s.pegler@leeds.ac.uk).
