With global warming, the rate of polar ice melting is accelerating. The Arctic is warming two to three times faster than the rest of the world. While relatively stable until recently, now the Antarctic Ice Sheet is in turn melting at a staggering rate. Should we be afraid of the great meltdown? Unfortunately, yes, because when the ice melts, the earth’s cooling chambers no longer function and that will have a massive impact on the global climate.
Two of our TiPACCs researchers, Hartmut Hellmer and Ricarda Winkelman, appear in ARTE’s new scientific documentary series 42 – La réponse à presque tout / 42 – Die Antwort auf fast alles, a nod to Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in which the number 42 is the ultimate answer.
